Service update

Our learner and employer portals are temporarily offline

We’re carrying out security updates to protect our systems and the information they hold.

What’s happening?

Access to the UCAN learner portal and employer portal is temporarily unavailable while we update and secure the systems behind them. We’re sorry for the disruption.

Why are the portals offline?

Some of the software used to run websites and online services is called PHP. It works behind the scenes to power features such as signing in, displaying information and connecting to databases.

A serious security issue has been identified in PHP. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) recommends updating affected systems, and advises organisations to consider taking a system offline if it cannot be updated or temporarily protected quickly enough.

We took the portals offline as a precaution while we carry out the necessary updates. You can read the NCSC’s guidance about the PHP security issue.

Is my information safe?

We have no reason at present to believe that learner or employer data has been accessed or compromised. The portals being offline is a precaution while we address the issue; it does not mean that a breach has occurred.

We’re updating the systems before restoring access, to reduce the risk to UCAN and the information entrusted to us.

What is affected?

  • The learner portal is temporarily unavailable.
  • The employer portal is temporarily unavailable.

What should I do?

There’s no action you need to take. We’ll update this page when we can confirm more about the restoration of the portals.

Thank you for your patience while we complete this work.
